CONSTITUENCY PROFILE

The Abetifi constituency is one of the 33 constituencies in the Eastern Region.
The constituency is in the Kwahu East District which was curved out of the Kwahu-South
District in 2007 by the erstwhile President John Agyekum, Kuffour administration, and
Abetifi as the District Capital.

The Kwahu  East or Abetifi Constituency has about 70,497 population according to 2010Population census  and with about 47,000 being eligible voters.

It shares boundaries with Afram Plains South in the North, Kwahu South and West, Asanti Akyim and Fanteakwa.

Abene is the paramouncy  of the Kwahu traditional area which is within Abetifi constituency.
The Abetifi constituency has about 146 communities.

The inhabitants of Abetifi constituency are mainly the Kwahus who are mainly into petty trading(business activities) and farming of food crop and rearing of live stocks in their respective communities .

The major communities within the Abetifi constituency include Abetifi, the District and Administrative capital, Nkwatia, Kwahu Tafo, Adouamoah, Pepease, Bokuruwa, Nteso, Akwasiho, Suminakese, Hweehwee and Abene.

There are other ethnic groupings or settlers which include the Ewes, Krobos and the Adas

Who are mainly into fishing activities along the Afram river communities within the constituency; Kotoso, Sempoa, Bonkrase, Tokorom, Dadease and Hyewhoden. There is also a small Northern decent in the constituency engage in farming activities.

The constituency has 22 electoral areas .The constituency can boast of 8 second cycle institution 1 university(Presbyterian University Collage), 1 collage of education and many first cycle schools throughout the constituency.

There are many political parties operating within the constituency however the constituency is dominated and is the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with it activities. The NNP has won both presidential and parliamentary elections with wider margin.

The Abetifi constituency is blessed with a young, energetic, affable, down to earth, respectful and a well resource gentle as it member of parliament in the person of Hon. Bryan Acheampong

Who also double as a Minister of State at the office of the president in His Excellency  Nana Addo Dankwah Akkuffo Addo’s government.

He’s initiated many poverty  eradication programs   for his constituents by which he’s like by majority of the constituents.

The major or common challenges within the Abetifi constituency include bad or poor road network, lack of portable drinking water, inadequate toilets facilities and the Fulani(Herdsmen) memace.
