The Member of Parliaent for Abetifi constituency and Minister of State in charge of National Security Hon. Bryan Acheampong has inaugurated a renovated boys’ dormitory for the Nkwatia Senior High School (NKWASCO) authorities in Kwahu East.
The Four hundred thousand cedis (GHS400,000.00) project which was solely financed by the Member of Parliament will accommodate over 1000 students.
Speaking at the ceremony he noted that education is central to government’s efforts towards poverty reduction in the country. He added that his vision as an MP is to increase access as well as improve quality education in the Kwahu East district and Ghana.
“Today is a great day for Nkwasco because at least there is a gathering of students and stakeholders to appreciate your institution, not because of the renovated building but it also gives us the opportunity to reflect on what we can continue to do for this great institution. Let me say that each and everyday I think and think deep of what to do to assist institutions in Kwahu”.
The Minister of State in charge of National Security further observed that secondary education offers not only academic progressing but total development of the youth.
Hon. Bryan Acheampong noted that the initiative is aimed at providing good infrastructure to ensure quality teaching and learning in the district.
“Education is key in nation building, a reason I’ve pledged to contribute in shaping the lives of these students who are our future leaders.”
For her part the headmistress of NKWASCO, Mrs. Evelyn Alice Amoah, commended the MP for his interest in education, which spurred him on to undertake the project.
“For the past 2years or more, efforts to get GETFUND, GES, and District Assembly to help us put the structure in good shape has been in vain. We sent a request to Hon. Bryan Acheampong and he agreed to assist us. Today, we stand here amazed and happy because over a thousand boys can enjoy a refreshing and sound rest in this dormitory”
She pledged to ensure the building is well maintained for the benefit of the students and district at large.
Narrating her part of the story, the District Director of Education, Madam Ivy Owusu stated that “I wept the first day I saw the state of the boys dormitory because it was a death trap and we didn’t know where and how to get funds to renovate it; until 2 weeks ago when I was called by the headmistress to join them inaugurate the building, thanks to Bryan Acheampong”.
She appealed to the staff and the students to demonstrate a high level of commitment and dedication to duty and co-operate to ensure greater discipline in the school.
Some students in the school who are on scholarship from share of the common fund thanked the MP for his continues support towards their education.
This beautiful edifice we’re seeing today was once a death trap, [But] thanks to our MP, the man who has education at heart – District Chief Executive, Hon. Isaac Agyapong said.
Nana Adae Tutu, KROTIHENE of Nkwatia who chaired the function, praised the MP for his contribution towards the development of education in the area.
“You’re always there for us and your commitment to duty and support for all manner of people especially the vulnerable is commendable. Bryan is a blessing to Kwahu and we thank God for sending him down to us” Nana Adae stressed
Maintenance culture
The MP gave a cash cheque of one thousand Ghana cedis to the school to help maintain the renovated building.
“There’s one thing I’ve realised in this country, and its that we’ve a problem with maintenance; but I Wang to see this building looking New in 5years and more. This money should be used for that purpose”
The event was attended by heads of institutions in the Kwahu East District, New Patriotic Party Eastern Regional women Organiser, Regional Secretary, Jeffery Addo, Presbyterian Chairman, Rev. I.K Acheampong and some chiefs from Kwahu traditional council and executives from the Abetifi constituency.
